WebP is a modern image format that typically produces files 25-35% smaller than JPG at comparable visual quality, which is why most websites now serve it. The catch is compatibility: plenty of desktop applications, print workflows and marketplace upload fields still expect JPG or PNG. This tool converts WebP images back to those formats, and converts JPG or PNG images to WebP for publishing.
Every conversion happens through your browser's canvas encoder. Files are never uploaded, which matters when the image is a client asset or an unreleased product shot.
When to convert away from WebP
Convert to JPG or PNG when an upload form rejects the file extension, when a desktop editor will not open it, when a print service asks for a specific format, or when you need to send an image to someone whose software predates WebP support. Convert to JPG specifically when the image is photographic and the destination cannot take WebP; convert to PNG when the image has transparency or hard edges you need to preserve exactly.
What conversion cannot fix
Re-encoding is not the same as improving. A heavily compressed WebP converted to PNG stays visually soft, because the detail was lost before the conversion started. Likewise, a JPG produced from a WebP will usually be larger than the original WebP with no gain in quality.
Animated WebP files are a separate case: this converter handles still images, so an animated WebP will typically be reduced to its first frame.
