Trimming precisely, in the browser

A trim here is a re-encode rather than a container-level cut, which means the start and end points land exactly where you set them instead of snapping to a nearby keyframe. That is the difference between a clip that begins on the action and one that shows a stray half-second of the previous scene.

The work happens in your browser through ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded, so unreleased or client footage stays on your machine.

Getting a clean cut

Set the start point a little before the moment you want, then check the result. Frame-accurate trimming is easier to verify by watching the exported clip than by reading timestamps, especially on variable-frame-rate footage from a phone.

If the source is long, cut it in a few passes rather than one enormous selection. Each pass re-encodes and memory pressure grows with clip length, so trimming a 10 minute video to a 30 second highlight is better done as two or three progressive cuts.

What trimming does not do

Trimming removes time, not weight: a 60 second clip cut from a 4K source is still a 4K clip. If size is the goal, trim first and then convert to a smaller resolution or a lighter codec, because there is no point spending time encoding seconds you already decided to discard.

Quick tips

  • Trim the shortest useful segment first, then convert or GIF it if you need a lighter share format.
  • If the source is very long, rough-cut it in smaller passes to keep browser processing responsive.

Next step: turn a still photo into video

Everything above runs in your browser and costs nothing. When the file is ready, Animate AI takes over: upload one photo, pick a motion preset, and get a short video back. Credits are prepaid, so you see the exact price before you start.
