Why social sizes are a moving target
Every platform crops differently and changes its rules without warning. An Open Graph card, a square feed post, a 9:16 story and a video thumbnail all want different dimensions, and the same source image cannot satisfy them all without cropping. This tool resizes and crops locally so you can produce each variant from one original without quality loss from repeated uploads and re-downloads.
Processing happens in your browser through canvas, so screenshots of unreleased work stay on your device.
Cover versus contain
Cover fills the frame completely and trims whatever overflows. It is the right choice for edge-to-edge posts, backgrounds and thumbnails where a full-bleed image looks better than empty space. The risk is that important content near an edge gets cut.
Contain keeps the entire image visible and pads the short side. It is correct when the picture must not lose anything, such as a diagram, a screenshot with UI at the edges, or a product shot where the whole object matters. Pick deliberately rather than defaulting, because the two produce very different results.
Practical limits
Resizing cannot add detail. Enlarging a small image to a large card produces a soft result, so start from the largest source you have. Repeatedly re-encoding a JPG across several sizes also accumulates compression artefacts; export each size from the original instead of from the previous export.
Quick tips
- Use Open Graph for website previews and launch cards.
- Use cover crop for edge-to-edge posts or contain when the full image must stay visible.
Next step: turn a still photo into video
Everything above runs in your browser and costs nothing. When the file is ready, Animate AI takes over: upload one photo, pick a motion preset, and get a short video back. Credits are prepaid, so you see the exact price before you start.
