Live Photo Maker: Add Subtle Motion to a Still

Make a live-photo-style loop from one image: one moving detail, a locked background and a seamless loop. Prompts for cinemagraphs and breathing portraits.

A live photo is not a video. It is a still image with one small piece of life in it: steam rising, hair moving, water rippling. Everything else stays locked. That restraint is what makes the effect feel expensive instead of gimmicky.

This page covers the live-photo workflow in the AI video generator, including the prompt structure that keeps the frame from turning into a full-blown animation.

What makes a live photo work

Three conditions:

  1. A locked camera. No pan, no zoom, no orbit.
  2. One moving element. Hair, steam, water, leaves, a curtain.
  3. A loopable motion. The start and end frames should be close enough to repeat.

If two or three elements move, the eye no longer reads it as a still with life. It reads as a short video with a shaky frame.

Choosing the moving element

SourceMoving elementWhy it works

Pick one. Write it as the only motion in the prompt.

Prompt lab

Edit a tested prompt before you generate

Pick a direction, change the details to match your source, then copy it or open the workspace with the prompt already loaded.

One moving detail, everything else still.

Browsing and copying prompts is free. Generation uses purchased credits, and the workspace shows the credit cost before you run a job.

The lab includes a cinemagraph, a breathing portrait and a memory loop. Edit the moving detail, copy the prompt, or open the workspace with it loaded.

The live photo prompt

Turn the uploaded photo into a subtle cinemagraph. Keep the frame almost completely still; animate only the hair moving in a light breeze. Lock the camera and the background, keep the lighting constant, seamless loop, no text.

Notice the words "only" and "lock". They do most of the work. Without them, the model adds camera drift and background motion.

Loop hygiene

A loop only works if the last frame can flow into the first. Two practical tips:

  • Keep the motion slow and continuous, not a single gesture with a start and end.
  • Avoid motion that changes the overall brightness of the frame.
  • If the clip has a visible jump, trim the last few frames in an editor.

Some editors call this a "boomerang" or "ping-pong" loop. Playing the clip forward and backward is a cheap way to hide a seam.

Where live photos are used

  • A hero image on a landing page that feels static.
  • A product page where a full video would be too heavy.
  • A travel or hospitality page that needs atmosphere.
  • A personal photo you want to keep as a still, but with a little life.

Because the camera is locked, the clip compresses well and loops without a visible cut.

Review checklist

  • Is the camera actually still?
  • Is only one element moving?
  • Does the loop seam show?
  • Did the background change?
  • Is the face unchanged?
  • Does the file size stay reasonable for the web?

Limits

  • This is a short generated clip, not an Apple Live Photo file. It will not carry the Live Photo metadata format.
  • The model may add unintended motion. Regenerate with a stronger "lock the background" instruction.
  • Very fine detail such as jewellery chains can shimmer.
  • You need the rights to the source image.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a live photo and a cinemagraph?

They are close cousins. A cinemagraph is a still image with isolated motion, usually looped. "Live photo" is also used for a phone photo format with a short video attached. This workflow produces the cinemagraph-style clip, not the phone file format.

Can I make a live photo on my phone?

You can generate the clip here, then download it and set it as a background or share it. The exact steps depend on your phone and app.

Why does the whole frame move?

The prompt was not restrictive enough. Add "lock the camera" and "keep the background completely still", and name a single moving element.

Can I use it for a product page?

Yes. A light sweep or a subtle reflection is a good fit. Keep the label facing the camera.

Is it free?

Browsing and copying prompts is free. Generation uses purchased credits, shown before you run a job.
